Your Workers’ Comp Benefits in Utah
Utah workers’ comp pays your medical bills and a portion of your lost wages after a workplace injury, regardless of who was at fault. Below are the 2026–2027 rates set by the Utah Labor Commission (effective July 1, 2026).
| Benefit | What It Pays | 2026–27 Weekly Max |
|---|---|---|
| Medical Care | Reasonable, necessary treatment for the work injury | No Cap |
| Temporary Total Disability (TTD) | 66⅔% of your average weekly wage while you can’t work, up to 312 weeks | $1,376 |
| Temporary Partial Disability (TPD) | Part of the wage gap if you return to lighter, lower-paid work | $1,376 |
| Permanent Partial Disability (PPD) | Compensation for a lasting impairment (e.g., a back, knee, or wrist rating) | $917 |
| Permanent Total Disability (PTD) | Ongoing benefits if you can never return to work | $1,169 |
| Death Benefits | Weekly benefits for dependents | $1,169 |
Add-ons: $20 a week for a dependent spouse and $20 for each dependent child under 18, up to four children. Source: Utah Labor Commission 2026 Quick Reference Guide.

Deadlines That Can Cost You Your Claim
Missing a deadline under Utah workers’ compensation law can give insurance carriers grounds to delay or completely deny your benefits. Here is how the timeline works in Utah:
Tell Your Employer Right Away
Utah law gives you up to 180 days to report a work injury, but waiting gives the insurer a reason to question your claim.
Your Employer Reports the Incident
Your employer must file a First Report of Injury within 7 days of learning about it. The insurer then reports to the Labor Commission within 14 days.
The Insurance Carrier Decides
The insurance carrier has 21 days to accept or deny your claim (extendable by 24 days, up to 45 days total for investigation).
If Denied, File an Application for Hearing
If your claim is denied, file an Application for Hearing with the Labor Commission’s Adjudication Division. Generally, this must be within 6 years of the injury, and you must prove your claim within 12 years.
Keep Up Your Medical Treatment
Medical coverage can lapse if you go 3 consecutive years without receiving medical care for your work injury.
